Sum of the inpatients in the daily census for each day of the period.
Discharges alive plus deaths in the period.
Sum of the days each discharged patient stayed in hospital. Admission and discharge on the same day counts as one day.
All in-hospital deaths in the period.
The deaths of patients who had been in hospital for 48 hours or more.

Patient days ÷ available bed days (beds × days) × 100.
Length-of-stay days of discharged patients ÷ discharges.
Discharges ÷ available beds: patients discharged per bed in the period.
Deaths ÷ discharges × 1,000 (per 1,000 discharges).
Deaths after 48 hours or more in hospital ÷ discharges × 1,000.
About these formulas
We use the definitions of INEC, Ecuador's statistics office, for its hospital beds and discharges register, which gathers data from public and private health facilities. In its methodology, INEC calculates occupancy with the length-of-stay days of discharged patients; here we use the patient days from the daily census.
We do not include the bed turnover interval because we did not find its formula in these official sources.
